Andrew arrived a few weeks before I did to get started, but I had to hang out for a while in Georgia while our car was repaired from a minor accident. Eventually, my mother-in-law (or mother-in-love as my in-laws say :) ) and I drove out with Samson and Delilah, our Australian Shepherd/Kooikerhondje mixes, stopping along the way to meet some more in-loves in Texas.
My beautiful mother-in-love Vanna Whiting (yes, it's now a verb) some old family photos at her uncle's home in Texas
Poor Lilah trying to get some rest!
But the morning after we got there, once Andrew had taken his mom to the airport, we got a phone call (I feel like so many of my personal "horror" stories start with a simple phone call...). It turns out Andrew had to report to ASBC-Air and Space Basic Course, a program all newly commissioned officers have to go to in a mere FIVE DAYS. And the best part: the course takes place in Montgomery Alabama, only two and a half hours away from where I'd just left!
So we tried to unpack as much as we could in two days, trying to make sure everything was as it should be in case we needed to file a claim for damaged items from the move. After a brief once over of everything, a fiasco that stemmed from a DIY motorcycle oil change (the hard part was easy, it was losing things in the gas tank that took some time...), and about 800 loads of laundry, we packed some things up, put our ever patient pups back in the car, and made the trip back to Georgia. Without stopping. Can't recommend it, though we did get there quickly...
Our time here at Maxwell has actually been pretty enjoyable. They've done a lot to make us spouses feel welcome, and it's been a nice transition, a good step 1 and a half, if you will. But we're ready to head back to our new home in New Mexico!
