Next week, the four of us are driving to Ohio for Andrew to complete another TDY, this time specifically for engineers. We're going to Wright-Patterson AFB, but technically we'll be staying in a hotel off base. We'll be lucky if we get a little fridge and microwave, but I think the most we'll probably have is a microwave, and we may not even get that. For three weeks. I am just not excited. I don't think many spouses attend this program, but I'm glad I have the opportunity, even if it will be cramped and tough for the pups to deal with. This week, Andrew's in Missouri, and the week after Ohio he has another trip-instead of five weeks apart, we only have to spend a total of two, and for that I'm thankful.
One problem we're facing that I hadn't really anticipated is having things delivered to our house. We're getting a lot of furniture and different items delivered to our house or local stores, and scheduling them to come at a time when we won't be on a trip has been a bit challenging.
Once we get back at the end of November I'm looking forward to getting really settled. Trash will be removed, furniture will be here, and we won't just be looking to the next time we're going to be leaving (at least not for a bit). We'll be spending our first Thanksgiving as a married couple together on our own. In fact, we may not be going back "home" to Georgia for Christmas this year either. The cost is just overwhelming to fly (plus boarding the dogs), and driving four days to get there and back seems so impractical. Of course, we could change our minds, but it may be a holiday season with just the two of us this year, which will certainly be alright, as wonderful as it would be to see family soon (though I don't know all of our family feels the same way...super cryptic personal statement, I know).
So here's to trying to get things together this week before leaving this weekend. Sigh. Well, I can't say I didn't sign up for it, or that it's not worth every minute...but I certainly don't have to say I'm looking forward to it!
good luck! :) are you the one who handled the move? jarrod has put me in charge of everything move-related, and even though we have ten months until anything like that will happen, i'm very nervous. let's just say i'll need some guidance! :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, I need it :). Andrew actually handled most of it because he was here before I was, but it's made things difficult because I'm trying to "take it over"...there's been a lot of confusion. I didn't even know the name of the company that moved us in, which makes it surprisingly difficult-I would recommend handling ALL of it haha. I'm sure you'll make it work!
ReplyDeleteJust one word to the wise-save your gas receipts!!! Not that that should be a problem with PCSing from India :)
